What's Wrong with this
Picture?.
Changes are being made to the character of our
town. One whole block on Liberty Street is about to be demolished
(pictured above) to make way for a drive through bank.
Further up the street residential houses in a neighborhood rezoned by the
Penn Yan village board from single family residential to commercial are being
torn down to make way for a hotel to be built by Rental Plus owner Brian
Zerges.
. Down at the opposite end of the same street (above), more residential houses
have been torn down to make way for parking lots for the school.

Think about the village of Penn Yan. Think about your favorite part
of the village - the place you would enjoy visiting if you were a tourist
coming here for the first time.

Why do you like your favorite section of town? What makes it special? What
can we do to protect the character of our town? How can we encourage growth
without sacrificing the beauty and the very things we like best about our
community?
Given the drastic changes which are coming
to our village, these are questions that planners in the local
community should be asking.

At a recent village of Penn Yan Long Range Planning and Development
Committee meeting, chairman Michael Christensen and other committee
members spent over one-half hour haranguing over the definition
of "commercial vehicle". Should zoning code definitions, which
have dominated this committee's work almost all year, be the
top Long Range Planning priority of the village right now?

The Genesee Transportation Council recently spent a good
deal of taxpayer money conducting an extensive "Route 14A Corridor
Study". What were the results of that taxpayer funded study?
Who knows! When asked, local planners didn't know. Indeed, some
were not even aware that the study had been conducted. Why conduct
a long and extensive study if not to utilize the findings in
some constructive way? To do otherwise can only be deemed a
complete waste of taxpayer money. Click Here

Look at these buildings while you still can. They will likely
be gone soon.
